The Story Behind a Wallcovering Design

The Story Behind a Wallcovering Design

Several years ago, my daughter spent a summer in Florence while in college — something I’d done myself at her age, and I was thrilled for her to have that same opportunity. My mother (her grandmother) and I went with her, and the three of us spent some time exploring the city together before her program began.

Many of my wallcovering designs are inspired by travel, and I was hoping this trip would spark something too. It did! Wandering through the city, I was stopped in my tracks by a medallion set into a stunning archway, and I snapped a photo on the spot. I took as many pictures as I could that trip, but this one stuck with me.

I sat with the idea for a while. Eventually I brought it into my studio, sketched and painted the image, then scanned the painting and began building it into a pattern in Photoshop.

That pattern became MEDALLION — a design that strikes the perfect balance between classic elegance and timeless style. It’s especially meaningful to me, since it carries the memory of that time in Florence with my daughter and my mother.

Like all of my wallcovering designs, the scale can be customized to suit your specific project. Use it to make a bold statement on a full wall, add unexpected charm to the back of a bookshelf, or create a stunning ceiling detail.

The possibilities are truly endless… To see the full collection of wallcoverings, click the link below.
